Oxford Students

For Self Determination

O.S.S.D. was founded in April 2018 as a group to support international peoples seeking self determination. Whether this comes in the form of national independence, regional autonomy or a more bespoke solution. Globally, there are dozens of groups that have suffered oppression and been denied the fundamental human rights of democracy and independence. We are keen supporters of internationalism and international cooperation but know that there can be no honest and open cooperation between peoples when some of them remain oppressed and unrepresented.

In article one of the United Nations Charter, it states that one of the UN's purposes shall be; "To develop friendly relations among nations based on respect for the principle of equal rights and self-determination of peoples". It is to this end that we were founded.

Of course, as students we are unable to change the world overnight or enact sweeping geopolitical reform. What we can do however is provide a platform for discussion and outreach, organise and support protests and fundraisers and facilitate debates which will bring the attention of Oxford's students, staff and more to these essential issues.
